About This Record

What Was Written Down

Matsebula, as reported, has Sobhuza I finding the Maseko at Nqabaneni under Cece, son of Khubonye, submitting without resistance and going north with him. Thwala 2013, following Bonner, tells the darker sequel: Sobhuza gave his daughter Lambombotsi to Mgazi waCece, and when Mgazi made a Ndzimandze woman his chief wife instead, the Maseko warriors were killed at a hunting party and Mgazi executed, though the clan kept some autonomy. Bonner counts them among the most powerful groups Sobhuza met. The Simelane say they are related to the Maseko, who preceded them. Recorded from the sources named on this entry; the wording here is Sibaya's own.
