About This Record

What Was Written Down

Matsebula, as reported, has the Nkhambule fleeing into Eswatini in Mswati II's reign and receiving protection; Kuper calls them a Sotho group among the late-comers. Several narrators instead say the Nkhambule of Godlwako sheltered an early Ngwane king and then joined the Ngwane, an older and friendlier relationship than the refugee account. Velebaleni Nkambule was a narrator on the pre-colonial meaning of chiefship. Recorded from the sources named on this entry; the wording here is Sibaya's own.
