The community blog groups Shongwe with Kunene, Madvonsela, Hleta and Sikhondze as emaTimandze, gives an origin at Ngwavuma where the Phongolo meets the sea, a flight from Dingiswayo or Zwide to Bulunga where Sobhuza I found them, and a chief Matsafeni Shongwe given a northern liphakelo after the defeat of the Sotho, succeeded by Matsamo, who died in 1925.
