About This Record

What Was Written Down

The rainmaking dynasty of the Vhambedzi. The Wikipedia articles (citing Loubser) say the line was seated at Tshaluvhimbi before moving to Makoleni, that after the Singo arrived the Luvhimbi ruler's sister became their leader and the Tshivhase dynasty's chief rainmaker, that Tshivhase rulers are buried on mountains while Mbedzi leaders are buried at pools, and that the Luvhimbi organised the domba school at Dzata and later lost ritual standing and abandoned Makoleni; the historian Beach thought Luvhimbi was a title. The typescript remembers Luvhimbi lwa Gole as a long-lived rainmaker who spoke many languages and whose descendant was later placed under the Vhasenzi of Ha Mphaphuli. Luonde names Luvhimbi as the prominent Vhambedzi khosi famed for rainmaking. Recorded from the sources named on this entry; the wording here is Sibaya's own.
